The Mikomwood Spin-off that time forgot . . .

...well that I forgot anyway. Like this blog! Yes it has been a year since my last post about squirrels. But the resillience and absoluteness of this blog shall remain resolute and keep going for a while longer. Well another four years at least since I apparently bought quite a considerable domain extension a few years ago.

A lot has happened in this year. After Oxford I spent some time in London finally ending up in Edinburgh and the summer I spent mainly in Edinburgh and various places in Italy.

Still rather unsure of what to do and where to go next, with no work and no stable future in sight, I decided to start a game project. This brings us back to the title of this blog post where Mikomwood finally gets a worthy future counterpart; HyperVentila.
Many years in the making ( in my head ) this mad science fantasy spinnoff from Mikomwood has been a bit of a mystery of how to make. While Mikomwood was to me what the Discworld was to Terry Pratchett, HyperVentila would of course seem like another jump to mad comic novelist and radio-play writer Douglass Adams and his Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Not this time! I wanted HyperVentila to be something else.
A universe of exploration, making your own madness and interactivity. So a game of course!

What have I got to show so far? some screenshots! and a silly Android port on my phone...
Some things have been a challenge in designing this game so far but I've learnt a lot.

I also recently designed a website for my dear Ilaria: www.ilariagiacon.com Check it out!

That's it for this blog. Until next time.

The Admiral Plays: Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team

I am joined by Vader91 as we go on a glorious rampage fighting glitches, broken camera angles and a whole bunch of Orks in Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. As the game only features local co-op this was played using TeamViewer & Skype.  This worked... well enough I suppose.

I also did a rather large Space Engineers build called the AIS Mako. You can see a video and some pictures of it here below.

Hero Machinists

Here is a fun thing I've recently come across: Hero Machine. It allows you to assemble 2D designs with pre-made assets in a way similar to Pimp My Gun.

Here is one design I put together, Arya:
arya1
This got me thinking, why don't I draw concepts more often? Sure I sometimes create 2D concepts for my 3D models but they're only intended as "concepts for a concept".

I did some tests using a tablet in the GIMP:
arya2
1st. Original - 2nd. Drawn over original - 3rd. Freehand drawing
I'm hardly a 2D professional and the years of me not using a pencil have started to become noticeable even to me.
This made me think of another thing. As I was drawing it occurred to me that even if I were to make the switch from 3D to 2D, I'd still miss the ability to look at my concept in 3D. Knowing that every aspect of my design has perfect perspective and that all details are objects and not just dots drawn out of lazyness.

I may try some more 2D sketches, stylized ones like these. It may take some time though before I can actually get good results and actual proper proportions.

I leave you with this image of a very narrow-sighted scientist.
yep
That's it for this blog, have a nice day!

Sir, Run Like Hell and Risen 2: Shallow Waters

Recently started playing some games I had left since the Steam summer sale as well as a game that was released recently.

First things first, The Stanley Parable. If you haven't checked it out already, download the demo on Steam and play it. You won't regret it.
This will in turn lead you to buy the game. It is the game I won't spoil in this blog, this means I cannot say a word other than it's good.

Secondly. Sir, You Are Being Hunted. An indie open world survival game with a "tweedpunk" style, yes that is a term now.
I could write a short review of the game explaining its basic mechanics but why bother when I have already made a 30 minute video showing the gameplay in detail:
Last and definitely least: Risen 2: Dark Waters. A pirate game that (I think) is supposed to be made in the style of movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. Naturally since it's a video game it is completely overdone, shallow in story and poorly made in many other aspects.
Now I may be giving this game to little credit but I got bored within ten minutes of playing it so that's about the extent of the video.
Decide for yourselves:
That's about it for this blog. Have a nice day!

Mikomwood

What is Mikomwood? Mikomwood was a fantastical land created as an inside joke between me and a friend over Skype.
What is Mikomwood now? Well... this:

Map of Mikomwood
Though how it actually started out was me not taking Mikomwood seriously at all. In fact I had probably dismissed it ten seconds after the creation of the name.
It was my friend however who pushed me to write a story. The very next day out of sheer boredom, I did.

This was that story:

Mikomwood - A Tale of Effed Up Shite - Mod DB
It was pretty rough and only intended for an audience of maybe two...

A second Mikomwood story is in production though and I hope to post them on YouTube as well this time.

That's about it, have a nice day!

Some low-poly work

So I have done a lot of modeling these past two weeks, finished a couple of models as well however I haven't uploaded them here on my blog, why? Well they're mainly low-poly models for the mod project. However, since this blog documents everything I do in 3d, I suppose I should post a little update.

First of, some ships for the mod:

The Battle Athena

The Ironheart

The Bronco
Also, here is my Jet Bike in the mod. A design that makes no real sense but I think it will look cool in the game.
Picture
And now an even stranger idea me and a friend had for the "bad guys" in the mod, the Delano System. It's a suicidal robot with a lot of firepower and speed. It's name is the GX-705 Infiltrator but I call it the Kamibot.
Picture
Yes, it's a very strange design idea, mainly based upon this Team Fortress 2 design.

That's about it for this blog. Have a nice day!
