Yes it is, it's a space-pie! Well this particular ship was another request from a clan member. It goes without saying he is a Star Wars fan.
Started on this model about a week ago. It's another JSSG-ship-design request. As usual trueSpace gave me some issues with the rendering/texturing. I'm quite happy it's finished now though. All this modeling leaves me with very little free time during the week when I also have work. Then again... I already have another request pending. Expect something Star-Warsy-looking to pop up here within a week or two.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm really sane... then I realize I'm not and all is well. And with those words I present to you, The Space Bunny! It is entirely powered by star dust.
The Konay Industries Phalanx Strike Fighter
Tag: RE-X 5 Class: Phalanx Length: 30 m Crew: 2 - 3 Standard Armament: 2 Class 500 Warheads + Arming System, 6 Hull Piercing Missiles, 40 Anti-Ship Missiles, 2000 Self Guiding Rockets. About a year ago some of me buddies in the JSSG clan suggested a "free spaceships for all" deal where each member of the clan could request their very own spaceship, give me some loose specifications and then I would build it for them. From this little idea sprung great designs such as the Ironheart and the Bronco. Now I've made another one. I call her the Shooting Star made by Wyvern Shipyards. So there is another ship for the JSSG fleet.
Not much else to report. I am still working, or rather, thinking about working on my Athena's Hope yacht. My 3D app is giving me a hard time with that ship... So it happens that one the game I own on Steam called Faster Than Light has mod support. Naturally, any game that has spaceships and easy mod tools is just begging for me to mod it. So why not start with some ships I've already made: Naturally I started with the Athena. The Athena battle refit is a perfect fit for this game being both heavily armed and yet small enough to fit the screen of the game. At this point I should probably explain a little what the game is about. It is a space exploration game where the point of the game is to outrun the rebel fleet with their invasion plans (sounds familiar?). You, as part of the federation however also have the obligation to cause as much havoc around in the universe as you possibly can as well as interfere with daily life wherever you can, yes, this game is a lot like Star Trek. Partially the appeal of the game is however micromanaging your ship. You have the ability to act as a sort of overlooking god (or HAL 9000 if you will) where you can send crewmen to their deaths while doing all you can to protect your ship. An example of such a situation would be having a fire in the aft cargo bay, now you could just send a crewman over with a fire extinguisher but that means risking the lives of your precious crew. Usually the favorable action in such a situation would be to simply open the cargo bay air locks and let the vacuum of space deal with the fire. Having this sort of classic sci-fi approach to space exploration is probably the best think about the game. Going back to mods for a bit though. Here is The Bronco, a fierce vessel with an impressive crew. This was proving to be the main challenge of modding the game. How do I make all these huge ships I build in FTL form without making them extremely overpowered in game terms? Well, I suppose I kind of failed there. This ship in many ways is quite overpowered especially with upgrades. Even so, I as the maker of the mod have no responsibility whatsoever to make these mods "fair" to the game... nope.... non at all... Moving on to this last little ship: If you're at all familiar with my spacecraft (which I do not expect you to be) then you will no doubt recognize this as an M-class Explorer. This is the M60 A.C.E turned into what I would say is the smallest possible ship in the game. Engines, Life support, Weapons, Shields and the pilot have all been shoved into their individual little square rooms. This ship with a standard crew of 2 is by far the most fun ship I've made so far. Sure it's a challenge but with an impressive arsenal this ship can hold its ground while dodging just about anything fired at it. So what else is new? Not much really. The Steam summer sale robbed me of probably 60 or so gigabytes of space. This does mean I got some great games though. This list includes Alan Wake, Hitman: Absolution, Primal Carnage, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider (2013), Max Payne 3 and more. About Max Payne 3, the only game of those other than Primal Carnage (really fun) and FC3: Blood Dragon (overrated) that I have actually got installed and played. It is a fantastic game, showing that Rockstar studios all over the world can still produce that level of professional games where so many other major developers fail. The writing, story and acting is all top notch. The gameplay is... well in comparison adequate but good nonetheless. Is it a personal favorite of mine? Not really, however I admire the game for how well made it is and that's something I rarely say about a game. On a sidenote, 30 gigabytes for 9 hours of gameplay? Couldn't you have scraped of maybe 1/3rd of that Rockstar so I could keep some of my SSD space? Ok, so that's it for this blog. Have a nice day!
Yes yes, it has been a while now. I still haven't much to share actually. For some updates, check out Admiral Skeybar's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/AdmiralSkeybar There I've posted some Rainbow Six videos. Like this one for example: Some crazy stuff right there. I've also continued on some of the models I was building. The M75b Explorer Prototype: There was also this gun model I was working on, the ESC-1. Also, a nice photo: That's about it for this blog. Hope I'll have more to show soon. Have a nice day!
Here are some designs for a robot faction called the "Delano System". The designs are based upon existing unmanned vehicles who are supposed to have been refitted some time in the near future with AI programs that eventually turn on us and decide to destroy us all. Even though the storyline of the mod (which this is for) takes place much further into the future, the robots tend to do very little designing of their own so the designs the fly around in practically the same as when they were first created, naturally the hardware (and software) have received many upgrades over the years, but the base design stays roughly the same. This the Delano Attack Drone, the main light fighter class and light bomber on the ground. Don't let its small size fool you, it has two forward cannons, two bomb/missile bays and two additional rocket/missile bay. They're fast and agile though their armor is weak and it has no self-repair capabilities, they simply throw these at you in large numbers. The DVQ-590 Attack Drone, a fierce fighter and highly modifiable, this is the Delano Systems special ops class for precise strikes against specific targets (space and ground). I'm guessing I'll be making more design for the Delano System soon, this will probably include anything from tanks to more stealth fighters. And then I will have to make the low-poly versions of the models.
Much work ahead it seems. So I have done a lot of modeling these past two weeks, finished a couple of models as well however I haven't uploaded them here on my blog, why? Well they're mainly low-poly models for the mod project. However, since this blog documents everything I do in 3d, I suppose I should post a little update. First of, some ships for the mod: Also, here is my Jet Bike in the mod. A design that makes no real sense but I think it will look cool in the game. And now an even stranger idea me and a friend had for the "bad guys" in the mod, the Delano System. It's a suicidal robot with a lot of firepower and speed. It's name is the GX-705 Infiltrator but I call it the Kamibot. Yes, it's a very strange design idea, mainly based upon this Team Fortress 2 design.
That's about it for this blog. Have a nice day! |
